While checking the plants growing in the protected cold frame today, I noticed that Oxalis purpurea 'Garnet' has jumped the fence and is now coming up outside the cold frame. Initially it was grown in a pot; but it did not flower freely there, so I set it free in the soil which forms the bed of the cold frame. It will be interesting to see to what extent cold and summer wet limit its progress. This plant has so-far proven to be a shy bloomer here, although the few flowers it has produced have been gorgeous.
