Hi All, For the first time ever I've had consistent failure with attempting to pollinate my Hippeastrum. I've never had this happen before in the 20 plus years I've been growing them. The bulb (x2) that is epically failing is Orange Sovereign. It bloomed and produced great seed last year and I was looking forward to the same this year. I pollinate the flower, it appears to take, then turns brown withers and dies. Both bulbs appear to be healthy and strong, both have sent up two scapes each. The third scape is currently turning brown and obviously perishing. I have one more scape coming up and will try again but ?? Until I tried to pollinate them, the blooms were outstanding. The foliage looks great as well. Like I said, I've never had this happen, normally hybrids self very easily and this one produced loads of seed last year. Has anyone else had issues like this? I thought maybe that with my plant room not having direct heat this could be a factor although it hasn't been before, our winter to date has been relatively warm. All my hippies spent the summer in the greenhouse with little to no water, as usual. However, we had a horrible grey wet summer and I didn't think I would get any blooms this winter. Has anyone experienced the same issues? Any ideas?
