Thank you Peter. They do not look like they will flower this season. I
don't mind, it will show if they will do ok here.
From what you say, Tulips like soil which is more alkaline than acid?
Or just the clusiana ones?

Most tulips do not seem to persist in acid soils, I have seen T saxatilis
(bakeri), T sylvestris and T sprengeri do well in dry, acid gardens
