>Iris dichotoma started to bloom two days ago here. Dear Jim McK and all, Just a reminder if you haven't been keeping 'track'. Some of us may recall when this plant was known as Paranthopsis dichotoma, a monotypic genus allied to Iris. Recent name changes include: THEN NOW Pardanthopsis dichotoma Iris dichotoma Vesper Iris Belamacanda chinensis Iris domestica xPardancanda norrissii Iris x norrissii Candy Lily I have been talking to a number of people who grow Candy Lilies. When original introduced these fertile seedlings included a wide range of colors from purple to orange, red, yellow , white and bicolors some with spots. Forms included both the more typical iris-form and others more typical belamcanda-form with many intermediates. Todays' Candy Lilies seem to favor the belamcanda-form, mostly with spots and a very limited color range. The plants all seem to be naturally short lived. Does anyone still grow a wide range of colors and forms of these outstanding late summer iris? By the way mine started to bloom a week or two ago in a limited range of pale purples.
