Hi Jim,
Which genus did your friend suggest for that bulb of "Peruvian daffodil"? Do the leaves form a pseudo-stem like Hymenocallis? If the leaves do not form a stem, and are not neatly two-ranked but rather coming out slightly deflexed from each other, could it be Lepidochiton?
