Among the listowners I know (and certainly including me), AOL is widely detested for needlessly making it so hard to generate just plain text e-mail. Below I'm including a procedure passed along to me which purports to accomplish this. I have no way to test it myself, so I can neither verify that it works nor that it won't do something else you won't like. But it looks reasonable, and I trust the person who sent it to me, so I offer it to the group: Steve, Here's what the best Geeks have come up with. The simple way works in most cases, the workaround seems to work always. "Go to Keyword: Preferences (or choose Preferences from the Settings menu on the AOL 6.0 toolbar)." "Click on Font, Text, & Graphics Preferences." "Click on the Reset button at the bottom of the resulting window. Do not make any changes in the Font Preferences area of the window." "Click on the Save button." Alternative-AOL-Work-around: "It is difficult but not impossible to make AOL send plain text messages. It is easier if the user creates a new message and addresses it to the list rather than to just hit the reply-button." "With a message devoid of formatted text, it is then possible in most versions of AOL to highlight whatever you write, right-click on it and choose a "normal" text option from the window." -- Steve Marak -- samarak@arachne.uark.edu
