The Color Encyclopedia of Cape Bulbs

Hi Alberto:

I was terribly disappointed to see that the genus Oxalis was not included
in the Encyclopedia. I think I know why. The only authoritative text is
"The Genus Oxalis in South Africa" written by T. M. Salter in 1943. I have
it. While the descriptions of the individual species are very helpful with
identification, the key is extremely difficult to use, to the point of
being almost useless. There has been no revision since 1943, probably
because the genus is so huge it would take two lifetimes to even address
it. It is unfortunate that academics tend to bite off manageable topics
for theses or publications, leaving Oxalis out in the cold. I imagine that
the lack of a usable key was one of the reasons Oxalis was excluded.
