February Gold is just now blooming in Coastal Southern California, zone 9 -
10. It's a good one for warm winter areas

Subject: [pbs] Narcissus 'February Gold'
Hi Gang,
About a month ago Jim M. wrote that Narcissus 'February Gold' was blooming
in his Maryland garden. My own plants are just starting to bloom. Today
is
Feb. 16, and this is a day or two earlier than I've got them down for in
my
notes, but I think my notes are very general. So, I think they are
blooming
for me the same time as they always do.
We've had an exceptionally mild winter. Perhaps, 'February Gold' just
needs
a certain amount of time before it can bloom in mild climates. Perhaps it
just can't make buds quickly in mild climates.
Cordially,
Joe
Conroe TX
First hard frost was last night, 23 F. All other frosts this winter have
been 27 F or warmer. Ten years ago this was USDA climate zone 8b. Now it
qualifies as zone 9a by a single frost, otherwise it would be 9b.
