A couple of years ago I acquired seed for Hippeastrum puniceum. They germinated well and I have grown them on in the garden this past summer. With the cold weather approaching here in Chicago, I dug my Hippeastrum yesterday. The puniceum produced a lot of offshoots over the summer with the main bulb being less that 1” in diameter. Is this normal for this species? Needless to say I will have plenty to pass along to the exchange soon.
