This year, we had to cut down some trees which had many bulbs growing but not thriving underneath them. The Amaryllis belladonna bulbs located in the former shady area are now in full bloom in mid-October, so I have to agree with Mary Sue that sun is a major influencer of bloom in these bulbs.
