An extra set of tepals occurs once in a while in various Crocus species. In my experience it does not repeat reliably from year to year. There's one cultivar, can't recall the name but it's not C. speciosus, that is known to produce "double" flowers more often than other cultivars. Is it perhaps one named for a person, first name "Eric" but I can't remember the rest?
