Crocus speciosus

An extra set of tepals occurs once in a while in various Crocus species.
In my experience it does not repeat reliably from year to year. There's
one cultivar, can't recall the name but it's not C. speciosus, that is
known to produce "double" flowers more often than other cultivars. Is it
perhaps one named for a person, first name "Eric" but I can't remember
the rest?

Dear Sabine,
Yes, please try to propagate them. They are beautiful. And I am pretty sure that virus has nothing to do with this sport.

Hello,
at the moment the fall blooming crocuses are in full flower in my
garden. Some of the Crocus speciosus ('Conqueror' I think) are double
lined as you can see in the attached photo. I have not seen a "filled"
crocus before - is this normal oder is it caused by a disease? I know
viruses can do funny things to bulbs (and other plants)... Or do you
think it is worth trying to propagate them?
