pbs Digest, Vol 159, Issue 21

Thank you, Monica and Nhu! I´ll assume my bulb is the Cthulhu variant of
Albuca namaquensis and give it some judicious watering.

Just saw an advertisement for a new book coming out this fall entitled ?The Amaryllidaceae of Southern Africa,? text by Graham Duncan, watercolour paintings by Barbara Jeppe and Leigh Voigt, ISBN 978-1-919766-50-8, <http://umdaus.com/index.php/…>. The cheapest version costs R1200 (about US$ 83), and is 650 pages long. Sounds like a very desirable book. Does anyone know of any group planning on putting together a group order to the U.S.?

Hi Jane,
The plant known as "Albuca spiralis Frizzle Sizzle" from Logees shows a
picture of A. namaquensis as Monica mentioned, but it actually is something
else entirely. I have seen the actual plant and it appears to be a weird
morph of probably A. namaquensis, much larger and much more robust that is
bred as a bedding plant. The flowers on the plants are deformed, which
makes me think it's a by-product of breeding it for size. I think it's one
of those that can take year round water as long as it doesn't get very hot
so you can just keep it going.

I would be interested in obtaining the book. It is about $51 to ship via airmail for an individual copy. Publication in September.

I just went to their site.
Got stuff from them last week, and there was no farewell note included....
