The Bulb order

You're welcome, but don't worry about me - my skin is pretty thick after years of dealing with nincompoops at all levels when I was going to the office every day.
I continue to be optimistic that most of the bulbs won't have noticed the extra week or two in the carton.  It's no worse than South Africa in the dry season!  There might be some things, like very small bulbs and things that were in an unfortunate stage of coming out of dormancy at the time they were dug, that might be more vulnerable, but we'll see.
Everything we have experienced is being memorialized and we'll run an after-action report on the whole enterprise after the dust settles.  This will help us decide intelligently if/how/when we might mount another effort like this.  Importing plants is inherently more of a challenge than buying bulbs at the local big-box store, but for connoisseurs like us, the hassle is generally worth it.  Speaking only for myself, the recent snags have not soured me on the idea in theory.  Not too long ago, I was all too vocal on the issue of how/if our group encourages volunteering.  Now that a more volunteer-friendly attitude is in the air, the least I can do is put my money where my mouth is.  I'd have no qualms about doing something like this again if there is enough demand and we can learn from this one and do it better next time.
We will later send out a questionnaire to all members who ordered to get their feedback on the process, the bulbs they got, and their impression on the overall value proposition with the benefit of hindsight.  I'm sure that will figure heavily into any decision by the Board to do such a project again some time.  And let's not forget that Bridget, Arnold, Uli, and Martin have also put a lot of time and effort into this, and will have a large voice in all the post-mortem analysis as well.
