insecticide

Without going into the depths of controversy, chemicals are a necessary
evil for many of us. Large collections held by individuals often require
certain measures to ensure survival. After losing Worsleya and Pamianthe to
bulb fly, my mindset shifted to more regular applications of conventional
chemicals. I use pesticides. I use them carefully. The first step with
pesticide use is to read the instructions, the second step is to read them
again. Read them before each use. Study them between uses. The more you
understand the chemical, the more effective you will be with its
application. Be familiar with chemical rotation. It's not as simple as to
throw down a bit of oily soap and expect your troubles to vanish. Organic
compounds can be excellent resources, but sometimes conventional treatments
are less toxic and safer to apply. This is a very complex subject and
broad, definitive statements should be avoided. We must allow individuals
to make individual decisions.
