hardiness of Kniphofia uvaria

I've seen this growing in a garden in the southern mountains of New Mexico
and here in the northern part of the state. Both areas are nominally USDA
zone 5.

Kniphofia uvaria Z8--the common "red hot poker", and as such far
hardier than Z8. The Pfitzer hybrids were raised and selected in Germany,
for instance. However, it has been hybridized and selected so I kon't know
exactly how hardy the species itself is.
