Thanks Jim! I'd attribute the phenomenon to the theory of pollination syndromes [1]. The various morphologies of bulb flowers offer many unique possibilities, a special interest for me. It is interesting witnessing which pollinators visit which natives, and most interesting to compare those observations to the visitation of pollinators on plants where they are not native, such as in a garden (overseas, etc). Often, I've noticed, the theory of pollination syndromes holds true, but there are occasional surprises. Fun!
