I am going to stick my neck out and pretend I know what I am talking about. I live in Minnesota, just west of Minneapolis, zone4. My Lycoris squamigera ALWAYS produce unfilled pods. I have about 30 bulbs(or at least 30 stalks). The pods grow to about 3/4 inch and remain firm on the stalks for more than a month after flowering before they begin to senesce. I haven't a clue how large fertile Lycoris sp. pods would normally get. I just assumed all L. squamigera did this. Am I wrong?
