Sequestered, here in New Jersey, I wandered down to the basement to stare at all the dirt-filled pots where hippeastrum, eucomis, etc are soundly sleeping, their withered brown leaves shabbily hanging over the edges of the pots. But wait! What's this? Tucked back in the corner almost out of sight the pot of Eucomis pole-evansii must have decided to start growing quite some time ago. How did I determine this? The many long, over foot-long, ghostly pale leaves. Whoopsie! Oh well. Today is shady so I feel safe bringing the pot upstairs out of the dark and putting it in the greenhouse. I always worry that too much sun on etiolated foliage will shock them into never turning green. If tomorrow has any sun I'll put white tissue paper over it to act as a filter. Need to look for thin bamboo stakes to create a support system. Another something that I cannot, these days, just drive to the store to get. -- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus/ _______________________________________________ pbs mailing list pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net http://lists.pacificbulbsociety.net/cgi-bin/…
