Anredera cordifolia is an easy-to-grow plant that rapidly makes huge tubers, which succulentists raise for exhibition. I haven't eaten it, but its cousin Basella alba is delicious, and a great green vegetable for even the hottest areas on south-facing walls. Anredera is equally heat tolerant.

People living in northern Indiana have asked me not to send this because it is invasive there. I think it has separate male and female plants, but if it produces seed, it is very easy to sprout. A succulent grower I know in metro Los Angeles has unintentionally spread it throughout his neighborhood. It has also grown and entirely encased a telephone pole, and grows out along the wires.

If you do grow it, I STRONGLY recommend you not put it in the ground, and keep the pot off the ground. It will send roots through the drainage holes before you realize it. If it does get into the ground, the only way to get rid of it will be to remove and cook the entire soil mass. Even tiny pieces of broken tuber survive for months in the worst possible storage conditions.

That said, it is a beautiful plant.
