Be careful on garden cleanup!

A couple of years ago I was cleaning dead leaves out of shrubs when my
unprotected hand encountered a sleepy bumble bee. There's more in your
garden than cute little hedgehogs (of which there are none here, of
course). Be respectful of the fauna, but....wear gloves.

Hi list,
It's a brilliant, sunny spring day here in southern Germany, reaching
20°C, so I decided to do some garden cleanup: some weeding, some cutting
back... so I decided to get rid of the dead leaves on my Kniphofia which
is nested on a south-facing wall. Luckily I was'n too agressive, because
all of the sudden I found a slowly breathing ball of spines below the
Kniphofia leaves and some other foliage. I hope I didn't disturb the
little fellow too much - it's time to rise up from hibernation anyway.
Never let anybody tell you that exotic plants are of no benefit to local
fauna - and never forget that you're not the only one who calls your
garden home.
Greetings from Germany, where we're in the midst of floral spring
explosion with lots of Scillas, Narcissus, early Fritillaries and so
much more!
