Thinking that all amaryllids are poisonous and therefore would be deer-proof, I planted several Crinum x powellii outside our deer fence a couple of years ago. Apparently the local deer have cast-iron stomachs, because they regularly mow the foliage to the ground. I suspect that I'll need to dig up the bulbs and move them inside the fence if I ever want to see flowers. Has anyone else encountered deer that like to eat amaryllids?
