Viewed often as a weed and prohibited as a bulb for exportation or importation this bulb remains for me a reliable and perennial friend in my garden. At this time of year it is a delight. A single clump, a foot across, started fifteen years ago has barely doubled in size. That’s hardly invasive. Not only so, the increase has resulted from bulb increase without any seedlings. The clump was planted in a bed of poor, fast draining grit and pumice and has never received any attention.
