I stored my Hippeastrum collection in an unheated addition off the back of my house last winter. They were in pots. They got some sunlight, but no water. It got extremely cold for a very long time. I expected most (or even all) of them to be dead. Some of them stayed green, which was beyond my comprehension. So about 3 weeks ago I finally put them outside so they could get some rain. One of them, Red Lion, is about to bloom. Another, Germa, is also sending up a bloom stalk. Only 1 plant in the entire collection died, H. roseum, which was a weak grower anyway... and I've lost in previous years even when I took proper care of it. Hippeastrum are now officially amazing, in my book. :-) Dennis in Cincinnati (who has never had Hippeastrum blooming with Iris before... magnificent!)
