Lilium auratum

Uli,
You've raised some impressively beautiful L. auratum. You are right - they
are a tricky species to grow well, but you've succeeded spectacularly.
Thanks for sharing.
Be well,
Mike

Dear All,
This potful of Lilium auratum has started to flower and the scent is
wafting through the garden. A very rich, complex and spicy fragrance.
Last autumn, I bought 10 bulbs from one of the Dutch Bulb Firms, they were
not even expensive. And to me it looks like the true species, please
correct me if I am wrong.
They are potted for two reasons: rodents have devoured many lilies and
other bulbs before…….
And the bulbs are not easy to maintain, they dislike wet and cold
conditions during winter so the pot will be sheltered from our abundant
winter rain. I bought a single bulb the year before which also flowered but
it perished in spring after the shoot came up, I probably watered it too
much. I know it is a tricky plant.
The pot is placed into a bigger ceramic pot, for aesthetic reasons but
also to prevent heating up the pot, even in dappled shade.
I staked the shoots gently as the flowers are so big and heavy that they
leaned over too much.
Bye for now
Uli
