OK, I know we aren't the Pacific Pseudobulb Society, but this is too cool not to share. Like all Stanhopeas, it hangs in a tree and the blooms dangle out the bottom. So captive specimens are kept in a hanging basket. Some species stink, but this has a very strong sweet fragrance that fills the greenhouse. The buds are the size of chicken eggs and when they open the whole process takes about 20 minutes, so if you're patient you can literally watch them unfurl. The blooms only last a few days, but there's a second spike coming along this time. I need to repot and generally give it less neglect, but it's obviously a tough plant and gives a short but impressive show.
