The Substrate of choice for Hippeastrums is "Einheitserde" which is the German Name for a commercialized mixture of light-brown, fluffy, lesser-decomposed peat with a small amount of clay and fertilizers. The Substrate temperature is 24° Celsius is not even slighly above. BUT anyone who is successfully applying lower temperatures should ignore this temperature suggestion. The watering technique is contributing more than it is generally akknowledged. Either water from above, pervasively, then let the substrate dry out almost completely ("cycling") or provide water from below, every day. In either case provide water fortified with a small amount of fertilizer. If the water is containing a lot of Calcium/Magnesium/Sulphate then use a liquid fertilizer If the water is containing but few Minerals then add a Suspension of solid blue grain fertilizer in water In either case add around 0.3 g of solids from fertilizer per Liter of water. Happy Greenhouse-- and windowsill gardening! _______________________________________________ pbs mailing list pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net http://lists.pacificbulbsociety.net/cgi-bin/…
