When a name that has been used for a long time has been recently changed, it is best to include the former name in this form: Moraea sisyrinchium (syn. Gynandriris s.). The brutal lumping to which the Iridaceae have recently been subjected has caused a lot of puzzlement. Indeed, I think that Gynandriris was an Iris for a few years. So what has happened to the former Hermodactylus? Is it still an Iris? Jane McGary Portland, Oregon, USA, where Gynandriris (now Moraea) is flowering in the bulb house today.
