Cynthia reported losses of potted specimens during a three-day hard freeze. I don't grow the same kinds of plants as she does (many subtropical), but I was able to protect similarly marginal potted bulbous plants during the same sort of cold snaps by setting the pots on the pavement of my covered patio and wrapping them in sheets of microfoam (a frost blanket available from nursery supply outlets). The mover's quilts sold at hardware stores also work well, though they are heavier and can flatten plants in growth.
