I dispensed entirely with lawn when I moved to Massachusetts, choosing to turn the entire lot, less house, driveway, and garage, into garden. So much easier, especially if you live in a less classy part of town where your neighbors have no way to pressure you to conform. The large trucks passing by day and night do create a lot of wind, but that works for the plants that like a harsher environment. Turning lemons into lemonade...
