These aurelians are so very far removed from the straight species. L.henryi was crossed with L lucanthum in the 1920s in Orleans France. Hence the name Aurelians. You can find photos of many great Aurelians in the old prewar Scheepers catalogues and post war Oregon Bulb Farms listings. White Henryi is a famous on that survived from that time. Bright Star is an other. Recently people working with aurelians have added L rosthornii to the mix to get black hearts. Though Leslie Woodruff hybridized Blackheart White BHW by the 1960s long before L rosthornii was known. I have worked with seedlings from BHW and sometimes you get a nice black heart. (Red over green in the nectary) or a red heart red over white. I am looking for all white, green or yellow semi recurved henryi type form with thick papallae and a blackheart on long pedicels, with secondary blooms, and good bloom spacing- something like the last 2 photos of my Sol Verde seedling from 2011 all grown up now at 9 feet tall. Why work with species when these fertile diploid hybrids are dozens of generations “improved”. You get better results standing on the shoulders of those who came before. I have sent my Aurelian seeds to the BX in the past. Rimmer > On Jul 2, 2021, at 8:55 PM, stephen willson <stevew1llson@outlook.com> wrote: > > Very impressive, Rimmer. Are you using L. henryii as the pod-parent and the hybrids as the pollen-parent, or are flowers you showed from crosses either way? L. leucanthum is starting to flower for me now, but my L. henryii are still a few weeks out. I hope one day to have some crosses like yours! > > Best regards, > > Steve Willson > Bow, WA -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
