Please unsubscribe me. I have tried several times and several different ways over the last couple of years, all unsuccessful. ________________________________ From: pbs <pbs-bounces@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net> on behalf of pbs-request@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net <pbs-request@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net> Sent: Thursday, 8 July 2021 9:30 PM To: pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net <pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net> Subject: pbs Digest, Vol 53, Issue 9 Send pbs mailing list submissions to pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://lists.pacificbulbsociety.net/cgi-bin/… or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to pbs-request@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net You can reach the person managing the list at pbs-owner@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of pbs digest..." Message-ID: <CAMb=XUG+mKtzjoRgeopz3BAkh+VJ_goT9nydpEAOP3X0ePHBVg@mail.gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" Greetings, I am a new member of this list and this is my first post. I live near Asheville in the mountains of western North Carolina (USA). I am hoping some of you can help me identify a Gladiolus my husband dug up from a ditch in an adjoining county. I have enclosed two photographs taken this week. I think this glad may be *G. oppositiflorus* or *G. ochroleucus* or perhaps something else altogether. Online photographs vary greatly. The glad in question is a salmon-pink. The base flower is approximatly 2.5 inches by 3 inches. Mature flower stalks are about 4.5 feet. Any help you can provide in identifying this beautiful glad will be gratefully appreciated. As the inflorescences mature, they develop an overall Pinkish tone.? My seeds came from Silverhill in 2007, germinating in transit. I planted immediately in 4" wide X 5" deep pots.? I aggressively up-potted ... to 1-gallon at 1-year, then 2-gallon containers at 3 years, and tried to keep them growing/in foliage through the first few Summers with light waterings and keeping them cooler, and only in morning sun from early May to early September. By the 4th year, the leaves widened and developed their trademark distichous growth habit ... reason enough to grow them ... but by the end of the 3rd year, they could not be kept in foliage through the Summer and went dormant.? I did try, successfully, to extend the growing season by providing H2O beyond our 'normal' rainy season ... starting to water in September or continuing to water through April if no rain.? Leaves would push by mid September and last til mid-May.? First blooms appeared after 10 years (in 2017) so they are slower than B.disticha. I did not realize there is that much variation in the bloom color or does it change over time?? ...?did you grow these also in large pots until you put in the ground as you had suggested for B. disticha.
