I have seen quite a few outdoor beds of hybrids, in southern California as well as metro Phoenix, that bloom each year in May. Years ago a gentleman posted here regularly about a Florida Amaryllis Society. He said they did best [in his conditions] in enormous pots or the ground, in almost pure sand, with just a little more than the basal plate covered. He said burying the bulb's equator inhibits blooming. He said they could be triggered to bloom several times per year, 12-weeks after beginning a treatment. He said to unpot or uproot the entire plant, lay it on its side in the shade without water for 6 weeks, then replace it and resume watering, after which it would bloom inn6 more weeks.
