I came to work in Hangzhou Botanical Garden after my graduate study in 2008, majoring in Botany. I came into contact with Lycoris coincidentally, and began to engage in the research of Lycoris. At the beginning, the main content of the research was cultivation, breeding and collection of resources.
From the 1970s Hangzhou Botanical Garden began the introduction and research of Lycoris firstly by Lin Jinzhen who did a lot of breeding work, selected out many outstanding varieties presented and introduced to the United States and Japan which is still in cultivation. The most famous hybrid species are named after the ten views of the West Lake.
After nearly 50 years of accumulation, Hangzhou Botanical Garden has established the first national Lycoris germplasm resource bank in China, with more than 300 germplasm resources currently preserved. More than 1 million bulbs have been applied in the garden, and the landscape in summer and autumn has been stable and spectacular.
At present, I have been insisting on the introduction, conservation and breeding of Lycoris, hoping to communicate and learn from each other with lovers all over the world to create more and better Lycoris resources.
