Mark Wilcox lives in Washington, DC, on Capitol Hill, just at the edge of the historic district. He prefers geophytes that flourish under his zone 7b conditions, and has limited garden space.
He also enjoys observing geophytes in gardens and in the wild abroad, an activity which is facilitated by the fact that his partner worked for an airlines. Countries already visited include: Canada, Great Britain, France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, Greece, Mexico, Honduras, Argentina, Uruguay, Thailand, Fiji, and Australia. Islands visited include: Jamaica, Anguilla, Montserrat (prior to the volcanic eruption), Roatán (part of Honduras), Puerto Rico & nearby Culebra, the British & American Virgins, Tahiti, Mooréa, and Bora Bora in French Polynesia, and Oahu and Maui in Hawaii.
