Etlingera or torch ginger is a genus in the family Zingiberaceae. The genus contains approximately 100 species and are distributed around tropical Indo-Pacific islands, India and Southeast Asia. Plants multiply by rhizomes which can travel quite far from the parent plants. Some plants can reach as high as 10 meters. Plants need plenty of water and heat if grown out of the tropics.
Etlingera corneri also known by the exotic name of Siam Rose, is native to Thailand. The photos below were taken at the Lyon Arboretum, Honolulu HI by Nhu Nguyen.
