Organizers of this festival in the East Bay area of the San Francisco, California, region (where PBS has many members) asked us to pass on the following announcement. There is an opportunity for the PBS to participate, as you will see, but a fee is charged for that. *Rotary Nature Center & Lake Merritt Wildlife Refuge* Stephanie Benavidez, Supervising Naturalist 600 Bellevue Ave, Oakland CA 94610 Dear Pacific Bulb Society, The Rotary Nature Center is very excited to announce our first annual *Oakland Nature Festival at the Lake Merritt Wildlife Refuge on October 2, 2016 from 10 am - 4 pm*! This festival is a celebration of the nation’s first wildlife refuge & the biodiversity in the heart of the Oakland, as well as a fundraiser for the Rotary Nature Center (RNC) & our event partner, The SF Bay Chapter of The Wildlife Society (TWS). We’d love for you to be involved to both promote your organization and participate in this community-building event! We’ll have a job/opportunity table for any openings at your organization, so feel free to bring any job, volunteer, or internship postings. Lake Merritt is a very popular weekend destination, and we expect a few hundred people to attend. Come meet & enjoy dozens of environmental organizations, wildlife rescue groups, live animals, local merchants, and nature artists for an afternoon of fun & education for the whole city! We’ll also have guest speakers, nature walks, workshops, a job board, and a silent auction. Since this is a fundraising event, we’re charging a sliding-scale rate of $60-$100 per table. The RNC is the overseeing body of the Lake Merritt Wildlife Refuge, and has provided conservation and natural history education for this Oakland landmark since 1945. This festival is a fundraiser for things such as binoculars for public use, museum display upgrades, and other educational equipment. TWS was founded in 1937 as an international non-profit scientific and educational association dedicated to excellence in wildlife stewardship through science and education. The SF Bay Chapter of TWS is working to raise funds to support their college mentorship program, ethnic and gender diversity initiative, and events and workshops for professional development. It will receive proceeds from the silent auction from this event for their help promoting, organizing, and providing volunteers & programs for the fair.
