Carl Purdy info trove

Deflect-o-rama. Let us joke about the details because the big picture is so terrible. I do.

It’s been a long time since ”pure wilderness.” Prokaryotes were modifying the world long before humans got busy with dams, farms, factories and subdivisions.

How could one not feel grief for the dying and the doomed? We are a transient species ourselves!

But I don’t blame Purdy in particular for ecological mayem. He had the perspective of his era, just as we see with the eyes of today.
Think of all the lilies that plant hunters dug in China around the same time, destined for elite gardens in the West, and how few of those lilies survived as populations in their new homes. So many delightful gardens were filled with birdsong and butterflies, far from the smog, slums, and other disagreeable traits of where the money came from.

It will be interesting to see what becomes of the selected lilies now in boutique tissue-culture here and there.

I am not saying, “Blah blah blah, now eat another Lotus.”

Times are changing, and fast. We’re going to have to cope with — we can’t even guess all.

I wish everyone tolerance, awe, affection for all our fellow passengers.

Paige
