Fun picture! It really looks like there is little remaining from the division but a portion of the old basal plate and a bit of the root system. I believe in this case the segment could be grown out and may form many small bulbs along the basal-rhizome-like-stem-plate. Then those small bulbs could be removed to form separate plants. If nothing else, watching the process would be a nice diversion for the winter.
