We haven't used a heater in our greenhouse for a number of years. We regularly get down to the 40ties and 50ties, sometimes even in spring, summer, and fall. We do get down into the 30ties at night sometimes fall into winter, but usually not down to freezing. We have a lot of trees which limits our light, but probably protects the whole garden from frost. Haemanthus pauculifolius flowers reliably and is just now sending up buds. I keep it in the greenhouse too, but water it year round. I find some of these winter flowering evergreen Haemanthus (also Haemanthus deformis) from summer rainfall areas to be so satisfying since they flower in December and January which is a slow period of flowering for me as the fall species are finished and some of the spring ones have not started.
