Hello Brian, First of all, I have no personal experience in growing Calochortus barbatus. But I understand that it is a summer grower from Mexico. So it should be about to go dormant at this time of the year. You do not state if you grow it in a plastic or clay pot, but I assume it is plastic. What I would do if the compost got too wet: get a clay pot which would have the similar shape and volume of the plastic pot your plants are growing in and transfer the rootball into the clay pot with as little root disturbance as possible. You might still be able to get an idea about the quality of the root system when you take out the rootball from the pot. In a clay pot you can then dry it down more gently. Your other ideas seem too drastic to me and might do more damage than good. Except perhaps giving it slightly more warmth. Hope that helps Uli _______________________________________________ pbs mailing list pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net http://lists.pacificbulbsociety.net/cgi-bin/… Unsubscribe: <mailto:pbs-unsubscribe@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net> PBS Forum https://…
