I won't append a list of the 200+ germinated pots in my seed shed, but one that has me amazed and at the same time depressed is Lloydia flavonutans, the seed a kind gift of PBS member Keshab Pradhan. Amazed because I have never had a Lloydia germinate before, and depressed because I doubt that I can grow it to flowering, given that it comes from around 4000 metres in the Himalaya. I did grow Lloydia serotina (from Alaska; it is circumboreal) for a few years at my former home but eventually lost it. If these seedlings survive their first year, I will overwinter them in a container in the refrigerator. Also I note some Alstroemeria species up in the past few days, including some from old seed bank seeds (I hope one "sp." may be A. spathulata, given its collection site), and the other day I saw a seedling of Alstroemeria pulchra growing in the gravel central path of the bulb house, from a seed dropped by a containerized plant now frozen to death. I was also relieved to see an A. hookeri seedling carrying on after I lost the parent in the previous winter, which was unusually cold. This winter is unusually warm here.
