>Really nice to read about the Veratrum fimbriatum being hardy because I thought I killed it with cold, but it must have been yet another Western NA plant that dies heat related complications in the eastern states. A contact sent me some V. fimbriatum seed a few years back. It arrived just before Christmas and was put in the fridge with other seed awaiting sowing. Fatal I was told later. Should not be chilled. None germinated then or since. I still have the pot. The sender sowed his without chilling and had lots germinate. Any other seed donation would be very welcome. A plant I have long wanted. Veratrum nigrum grew well in large pots for some years and is now at last set free in the garden. The root ball is surprisingly (to me) a mat of fine roots that I had to chop up with a large knife. A few flower stems after dividing still, but many more when released into the garden. V. album I lost after trying to dig it out from the old garden. It went down a long way and never grew as well as V. nigrum in a pot. Brian Whyer, Buckinghamshire, England, zone ~8
