Bulb and Seed Exchanges / BX 485 Now Closed
August 31, 2022, 09:28:23 PM
All:
Standard rules apply for this BX.

Kindly review the list below and email me at Bulbexpbs@gmail.com with your request(s). I will send a simple acknowledgement of your email.  Should you not have a response from me within a day, kindly resend.

Be sure to include your full name and address.

Bulbs are $3 each. Some orders will have multiple bulbs but only count as one order if we have a lot of that bulb to go around.

This will be a lottery (however, if you did not receive something last round, kindly advise and I will assure some accommodation. Also, if there is something you really are looking to receive, it helps for me to know this as well.)

You must be current in your membership and you must be up-to-date on BX/SX charges.

KINDLY NOTE:
Payments will no longer be made through the Paypal website due to changes in Paypal policies. PBS must be paid through the PBS website at: https://www.pacificbulbsociety.org/pbsforum/index.php?page=BXpay

You are still free to send payment via check if that is your preference.

No orders to anywhere but the US and Canada can be entertained at this point.  We cannot furnish the appropriate phyto docs.

This BX will be open until Saturday at 9 p.m. (EST)/6 p.m.(PST).

Thank you to our current donors.  There are some super cool items below and everything looks healthy.

Hi everyone:
I'm organizing a nice little BX this week.
Have some special treats from Jane McGary who is redoing her bulb beds (lucky us!) and a few other gems.
Keep an eye out.
Thanks,
Bridget

Bulb and Seed Exchanges / Pop Up BX 484
August 20, 2022, 11:38:48 AM
Hi Everyone,

Chad Cox donated some sweet starts of a couple nice plants. But first, kindly see below:

This BX open for 36 hours (that's 2:00 am EST and 11:00 pm PST Monday/Sunday) - they leave my possession on Monday morning.
Standard rules apply: It's a lottery. You will get a reply from me acknowledging your request, but it will be just two words: "got it".  I spend a bit of time trying to sound friendly and I am, but it slows me down when I receive 50+ emails.  I beg your indulgence on this one.

You must be current on membership and any exchange fees you owe.  If you are unsure, email Jane McGary (janemcgary@earthlink.net) for membership questions and Arnold Trachtenberg (arnold140@verizon.net) for exchange fees potentially due.

Send me an email to bulbexpbs@gmail.com and tell me what you are interested in.  I need your full name and full address.
I know some folks will miss this email, it's the weekend, etc, but I won't usually need to move things this quickly.

A quick note, we have a few new members and that makes me very happy (as several of them are folks I know)  New members: feel free to email me if you have extras of things to share.  Even if it's just a few.  I assume we will have a larger BX sometime in the next couple months as summer growers go down.  In the interim, if you have something, keep us in mind.

Only two things on offer this go-round:

1. Haemanthus albiflos  (a dozen or so small offsets with big potential!)
2. Cyrtanthus mackenii
(red) (another dozen or so - small but healthy)

Thanks and have a super rest of your weekend.
Bridget

All,
Great participation for this quick BX.
Nearly everything was spoken for.  Obviously, some things were very popular and in short supply.
There are several folks who did not get any of the choices they requested.  I regret there wasn't enough of the pelargonium to go round (only 1) and there was lots of interest in the calostemma and crossyne but very few of them as well. If you didn't get any of your picks this round, do remind me next time you order and I will make an effort to assure you receive something you're after.  Yes, it's a lottery, but I want all our members to benefit.

I sent half the boxes out today and the balance will go tomorrow.
If you don't receive a box in the next week, you likely didn't get your choice(s). I keep an eye on the tracking so I can see if packages were delivered. If anything appears to be lost in transit, I will advise the recipient.
Thanks and have a super weekend.
Bridget

Please be advised that I will be listing a BX (with lots of fabulous things) this weekend.  I am hoping to have the list together Friday night (Eastern Standard Time). If you sent a donation and I did not acknowledge same, kindly contact me asap.

Also, please assure that you are up-to-date on your membership and/or outstanding fees for the Exchanges as we cannot send items to folks with outstanding balances.

Thanks!

Bulb and Seed Exchanges / Pop Up BX 482.i
July 11, 2022, 08:36:12 PM
Hi Everyone:
I have received a donation of things that cannot wait for BX 482 in a couple weeks.
Member Amy Olmstead has sent the following:

Giganteum.jpg
1. Sauromatum giganteum (10). I have attached a picture of mine in flower.

2. Juvenile amorphophallus konjac corms beginning to break dormancy (7) and

Cyrtanthus.jpg
3. Cyrtanthus sp.- in active growth (approximately- 15)  Unsure of species, attaching picture. This was a pass-along plant Amy received from someone's patch that has been extant for 30 years or so.

Kindly email me at BulbexPBS@gmail.com with your order.  I intend to get these shipped by Friday, July 15, and will take orders until Thursday at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.  This offer is open to members who are in good standing and I regret that I cannot ship to countries that require a phytosanitary certificate.

Thank you,
Bridget Wosczyna

Hello, Everyone,

I had quite an experience with the first big BX I handled and I learned a lot. A LOT.
It went fairly smoothly and some hiccups occurred but overall, I hope most folks were satisfied.

I have taken a breather, attended to my garden and am advised by a few donors that it's time for another.  I admit I am happy about this as it has been my desire to get us back to more frequent BXs.

Therefore, kindly take stock and send me your extras! The deadline for donations will be Sunday July 17. If you have things that you wish to send, but cannot get to them timely (vacations, etc, I understand.  Please send along afterward but do advise me that you are sending (bulbexpbs@gmail.com) so I can keep an eye out; I'm not opposed to small BXs in between seasonal offerings).  I plan on posting a list the following weekend.  I still have some dormant bulbs from the last BX and will offer them as well.

I hope everyone is enjoying summer.
Best,
Bridget

The flies are common enough but I've not seen ants visiting arum inflorescences previously.
The garden is quite ripe at the moment but it's a lovely plant.

Hello Bridget and Canadian members

I don't recall ever seeing a post about Canadians participating in the Bulb
Exchanges and have assumed that this is not possible.
Can someone please confirm whether this is the case, or what the protocols
are?

Cheers,
Dana Cromie

Below is a list of bulbs available for BX 481.
I will keep the BX open until June 1 at 11 p.m.
*Kindly note the following*:

You will need to send me an email directly at Bulbexpbs@gmail.com. * DO NOT
REPLY TO THIS EMAIL. *

You must be a current member to order. If you are unsure if you are current
in your membership, kindly reach out to Jane McGarry at
janemcgary@earthlink.net.  I cannot honor requests of unpaid members.

Send me a list of the number and name of the bulbs you wish to receive.  I
will also require your full name and mailing address.

I am not yet affixing labels to the bulb envelopes. I may do this in the
future, but you will need to refer to this email or the List for the time
being to discern what you received and I will write a number on the
envelope. Each bulb sent (or envelope with multiples) will be $3.
