My husband and I were in Portugal this month for two weeks. The highlight was a wonderful afternoon spent with Uli Urban, and his partner Bernard Niederberger, touring their garden in southern Portugal. They welcomed us so warmly and were happy to answer our questions. They have transformed a weedy steep slope into terraces heavily planted with unusual bulbs, succulents, orchids, shrubs, and fruit trees. What they've accomplished is awe-inspiring and simply beautiful.
