I have to agree with you on this one Fred. Personally, I have tried dozens
of time to cross South African beauties with South American ones, it never
worked. But, some Asian genera work with South African ones and I can tell
by their foliage they are different from their parents.

That article might be a bit misleading. That red flower in the photo is
a Hippeastrum, whereas xAmarine hybrids involve Amaryllis. I would think a
garden writer would know the difference, but maybe we can blame the photo
editor.
