There are some infections that spread through the rhizome, but this sounds
like normal senescence. It’s to be expected that the old pseudobulbs will
die, particularly if the divisions were only one or a few growths—all the
energy has gone into making new pseudobulbs. Unless you see evidence that
new growth is affected, I would just pull off the dead pseudobulb but would
not repot.

Happy New Year all-
I had a massive E. petersii that I split into many pots last year. From
that, I have a few plants that the original pseudobulb turned brown and
somewhat mushy, but has new growth that looks perfect.
I would like to remove the brown portions and repot. My question is -
do I
let the pseudobulbs callus first? I have not removed any to see how far
down the brown area extends.
I am repotting in Hydroton, and will keep on the heated floor of my
greenhouse.
Any recommendations?
Best regards, Lisa
