Bob, I'm curious which Hippeastrum? In my experience most of them produce multiple pups on an ongoing basis. Are you trying to explore new methods for fun / research? I've also heard an old wives' tale (?) that they produce even more pups if they are planted deeper than not. (As in; down to the top of the bulb or deeper, instead of having the bulb half exposed.)
