I agree completely with Nick. I've grown E. petersii, as well as a lot of other Eulophias, for years, and this sounds normal. As long as the new growth looks good, nothing to worry about. I don't grow any of the others in Hydroton, but I do E. petersii - it's the most succulent and dry-adapted of the group, and seems happy in that medium.
