Unfortunately around here there is no way to guarantee that it is only leaves that go in the municipal compost much of it is grass clippings with loads of residual herbicides.

Hi Tim
We have a composting contractor in our town who rents space at our DPW yard
They take leaves from street collection and waste from arborist companies in the area and sell the compost
I haven’t used it due to the quality of the input material.
Street leaves must be loaded with waste from automobiles such as oil products and brake lining dust.
I have used compost from organic composting facilities in some of my potting mixes

I would love to hear a discussion of your experience with municipal leaf
compost and/or rice hulls in potting mixes.
Thanks
