I grow an entirely different range of bulbs from what Judy mentions, but about half of the collection is in plunged pots. I used to repot them every second year, which called for mixing mountains of potting medium. With declining strength, I've moved to doing it every third year. I do keep the fertility up with soluble fertilizer applied at intervals during the growing season. This summer I repotted all the potted bulbs. Next summer I hope to lift the other half of the collection, which grow planted directly in a deep, covered raised bed, and refresh the soil, which has become compacted over the ten years since I built the bed. The surplus from the repotting will appear in the next BX, which I trust will be announced soon.
